Default hi

Hi, interested in this list of yours. "Eternal Spring Living".
Email me if you have time.

At that time, you could have lived a reasonable lifestyle for $500 (not including car, but transportation is readily available or you could buy a motorcycle for $1000).

Here is an article that I wrote while in Dalat:
internationalliving dot com/countries/other_countries__1/asia/vietnam/country_archive/07_18_06 ... Big White Buddha
I also wrote several other stores that were never published plus one story that was published in the Internation Living print edition. If you contact me outside this forum, I would be happy to share as long as you agree not to post them.

As a hobby, I have been researching "Eternal Spring Living" types of locations worldwide... I have over 200 such cities in my database. There are two types of places that have "Eternal Spring" type climates, mountains in the tropics and sub-tropic beach/island locations with cold off-shore water. Dalat is an example of a tropical mountain paradise and San Diego or Sydney are examples of beach locations with near perfect weather. Again, if you contact me outside this forum, I would be happy to share as long as you agree not to post the data.

My plan is to move in a couple of years to a "Cheap location with spring-like weather and high-speed internet"... and I also make my living online. So, we have some common interests.

Ron

I agree with Roy you can try Philippines. I stayed there for several months and I was still working online by then, I don’t experienced internet problem during my stay. I have a relative who decided to pursue her studies in the Philippines. Her family easily permitted her because she’s going to live in Manila with her half siblings. The expenses are cheaper compared to other countries. She is a student and uses internet everyday, there’s no problem at all. There are lots of internet providers there where you can choose from.

The other thing you have to worry about is getting the legal right to stay in the country for an extended period of time. This can be difficult to impossible in some countries. Some places allow you to do visa runs, other places make it fairly easy to get residency, and some make it nearly impossible.

Have you considered Mexico?

Beware of 'eternal spring' as it is sometimes a euphemism for 'rains all the time'.

I'm pretty sure that Korea has the fastest internet in the world. It's lightyears faster than anything I've ever experienced in Canada. Super, super fast.

As well, the cost of living is cheap. Full dinner can cost you $2-4 American dollars, and you'll be stuffed completely. Taxis cost 1/10th what they do in Canada, and a bus ride with set you back 90 cents. There's also a big push for English here (they're trying to make it a national language), so you'll be able to get by very easily.

And the weather's not bad. Monsoon season was two weeks long. Now it's November and it rains once every two-three weeks.

And what about being allowed to stay? All countries are not equally welcoming. That makes Cyprus more appealing, I'd think, because you have a legal right to move there if you are from the UK (I'm assuming you aren't from the US or Canada because Cyprus just isn't a place we would think of). You need to check out the visa situation as one of the first parts of your research.

You also have to consider taxes. If you actually move somewhere, you will be working in that country and may be subject to taxes. There is also a chance that your working would invalidate your visa.

We can highly recommend Portugal. Fantastic weather, lovely people, low cost of living, great beaches and sea resorts. Ideal!

Check Pakistan too.... Internet with highest speed is low priced, living is average and if you can earn around 3 to 5 thousand US $ monthly then you will going to save around 3 thousand US$ monthly easily.

Default consider Spain

I have just moved back to the US from Valencia Spain where we have ADSL (Highspeed 3mg+). the cost of living is still a lot cheaper than a lot of places i.e.) (typical lunch in a cafe 8euros including wine). If you want to buy a house or apartment now is the time as it is a buyer's market and if you wish to rent the rents do not correspond with the value of the property. Take a look - the weather is amazing and Valencia is near the sea. I miss it!!!!

but i need pretty fast internet (would be even better with low pings to europe...), good weather ( i'm in Poland, and it's very cold ), and low costs of living. i wouldn't mind the sea or ocean too

let's look at what i so far considered:

Thailand/Malaysia - it's not cold for sure, but internet is pretty slow and since my work depends on it, i don't know... also, i looked at telegeography, and all traffic from east-asia is going to US and then to Europe, that's really bad... it's slow i checked and there is average of 500 ms ping replies )

Vietnam/Laos - underdeveloped still. some stuff is actually more expepsinve han in europe (like internet). won't even say a word about internet speed.

Cyprus/Malta - pretty warm and close to europe. but internet costs and overall costs of living not really good.

Uruguay - so far the best bet, but internet still not quite good... and i don't know spanish but that i can learn. but then again - electronics in Uruguay is so expensive, and so cheap compared to malaysia.

any other ideas? Bali in Indonesia also quite good, but also slow internet...

more developed countries are more expesinve... but maybe i missed some small (or not so small) country that is pretty cheap but also has quite fast internet? if you have any ideas, please post them here
