For any British citizen living abroad who has not already done so it is a good idea to register with the British High Commission.
This helps them to know who is living in which country so that they can contact British Citizens abroad in case of emergencies.
You should register regardless of how long you intend to be living abroad.

Many consulates/embassies will also send out periodic emails about services/concerns/changes etc which can be very useful.
