Margaret is on a distinguished road
Default Health

I am new to the forum but wondered if anyone could give me some advice on Health Care. I know all about the Health Care I can receive here in Spain but am confused as to whether I am still covered for Health Care in the UK.

I get free health care in Spain because I have the E121 form. What do I do as regards to any medical assistance I may need if I am in the UK and can I still go back to the UK for health treatment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Health is actualy attained by what you eat and a good excerscise regumen , should you experience the need for medical attention , you are afforded the full gamut of health facilities the moment you set foot on Englands fortutious soil as a british national , and all its other services as though you had never left .It is a good idea to advise them of your return date in advance however
just to cover your rear-end , read this on the UK government site , good place to go with your enquries , get it first hand .Colin

Hi Margaret and welcome to the forum.

Firstly if you read the UK newspapers recently you will see our Hospitals are worse than Catterys for hygene at the moment ..
Signs are placed on the outside of the buildings saying before you leave "NOW WASH YOUR HANDS" !! Been storys of people left to soil there beds and stuff 90 deaths due to Cifed or some new disease ..

My advice is if you feel ill get back to Spain as there Hospitals are better super modern and clean and healthy ..

Margaret, when you take up residence in Spain you lose your rights to normal healthcare in the UK unless you are (a) returning to live there or (b) need emergency treatment. If you are over retirement age on an E121 then of course you have full health care in Spain.

If you go back on a visit to the UK then you really need to take out travel insurance to cover you whilst you are there.

How can a Brit lose their rights to healthcare in the UK, when the UK provides healthcare for all and sundry, regardless of whether the person has paid any contributions into the system! It just doesn't make sense.

No I'd agree, having paid into the system all my life .... it wouldn't be so bad if you were given free healthcare in Spain but thats not the case unless you are of retirement age ..... unless of course you happen to live in Valencia province which is a bit of an anomoly

A friend of mine recently went to the UK on vacation , he was afforded his full pension and health care coverage for the duration of his visit , but was told to advise the government of any future visits so as to avoid delays that could occur in coverage for both . Colin

I also just returned from a holiday there and was charged £35 for a doctors appointment as I am no longer covered under the state system

Not sure how your friend managed it, but I can assure you that once you are a resident elsewhere you dont get cover in the UK

Pension is a different thing ........ you are entitled to your full pension rights, which is nice of them isnt it!!!
