Default Electric Shower

Does anyone know if you can buy electric showers in Italy.

We purchased a new apartment in August and the immediately applied for a gas connection but we still haven't got a gas meter fitted and are still awaiting Enelgas to install one.

Without gas we have no hot water.

Any other suggestions as to how we can get hot water - we don't have a bath only a shower.

Anyone know if an elctric boiler can be fitted quickly and approximate costs

Welcome to the expat forum! I see you have already cross-posted to the Italy forum. I hope you find a way to get hot water for your shower soon. The only thing I can suggest in the meantime is that you heat water in the kitchen, carry it to the bathroom, mix it with some cooler water in a large container, then use a plastic dish of some sort to dump water over yourself. In SE Asia, this is called a mandi, and it's a fairly common setup, though it usually involves only cold water.

I like a cold shower in a hot climate, and one of the advantages of a mandi is that it cools you off because your wet skin is exposed to the air between splashes. However, if you are somewhere that is not truly tropical, that is not exactly an advantage. I don't think much of Italy feels very tropical in October.

Thanks for doing some research, oddball. Now that you mention it I think someone told me that some of the electric heaters used in Central America are Italian.

Not sure I understand this. What has the back yard got to do with it?

If you are referring to the benefits of a cold shower in the tropics, I'm surprised. You live in Cambodia, and the benefits of a cold shower, especially a mandi, should be obvious. Cold showers in Italy in the fall, when the cold water would be really, really cold, don't sound attractive at all.

I really don't understand why you are going on and on in this thread. The OP hasn't been able to get a hot water heater and asked for help.

You made the 'shower in the back yard' post. I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now.

Why is everyone getting so worked up about a shower ..... lets leave it and get worked up about something worthwhile

Thanks, oddball. Interesting that you deleted your comments when I quoted you back to yourself.
