Default London Olympics 2012

Has anyone been following the Olympics in London 2012?
Any comments on this globally historic day?
I like the presentation but imo, it's much underplayed e.g. London as the capital of the Commonwealth countries and more theatrical arts e.g. on the role of English in the world of sports, Shakespeare, Dickens, Johnson, the great universities and inventions, historic landmarks etc... and more humour about the quirkiness/eccentricities... oh boy, does the world need a good laugh at this time.
Likes - the queen parachuting and Paul Macartney's Hey Jude.
Missing - Alice in Wonderland, Enid Blyton, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter...
Day 2 and I know I'd like more coverage on tv for gymnastics for instance, and at least some interview with other best Olympians.
Er... hope the good weather stays... and that everyone's tuning into London.

Hi ....I'm also a tv spectator; as I generally avoid crowds and everyone else on holiday. On holiday when the greatest sports show's on earth!
Yes, adore Mr Bean; always watch gymnastics, and my, haven't they upped the game to a fantastic height - powerful displays of elegance, strength and precision , all these flying acrobats! Ah...if only I can tumble and fly like that.
I'm glued to the tv esp. for the gymnastics, swimming, bicycling, horse riding, badminton, tennis and table tennis.
However, I feel it's a shame the idea of a great Olympics event is so marred by the accusation and slander of a young maiden by an old coach! That, and the way it's unresolved as yet, really took the excitement and momentum away.
My heart goes out to the 16 year old who had to swim in such muddied waters. it can't be easy. Ye Shi Wen's awesome and deserves the accolade and support from all with Olympian integrity.
I hope London can up the moral of this global event, not just the competitions; so much remains to be watched.

re: Harry Potter, JK Rowling did a brief reading at the ceremony didn't she? Agree that Paul McCartney has had better days!

Apart from McCartney being meh.....I loved the Bond/Queenie thing...she's a good sport!!
Loved the fact that the NHS and GOSH were being promoted to the rest of the world.....here in the US, they're totally against 'socialised medicine' and the money-driven healthcare really sucks here....
The coverage also sucks here...totally USA-oriented, we're missing the Brits in everything!
Loved Mr Bean.....
In yer face, Mitt Romney.....the Brits are doing great!!!!!

Agreed Paul's singing's not Olympian class; but, like the NHS and Great Ormond st, the humane aspect includes senior people; so hey, common Paul Macartney, rock the world.
How's life in the USA today - thought Obama''s bringing changes to their medicare - welfare care to all?
The coverage here's mainly Gt. Britain versus other challengers too... mitt Romney? Ah, always good to have a different voice somewhere in case one gets ott.
From Wednesday, the medals keep coming to the Brits, which moved the commentators to cloud 9...
But hey, after all the nationalism, can we cheer for the world team winners? It's quite unlike the London crowds when non- Brit swimming teams enter the pool to a silent, unappreciative crowd - thanks to Ian Thorpe too, for speaking in between the lines about this.
Do I care which country wins? Not so much.
Do I care which country doesn't participate? Yes.

Andy Murray, best tennis sportsman for gold this Sunday!!
He should also get a medal for the Andy style of playing tennis -
truly a gentleman sportsman who plays the game usually, and only resorts to tactics to beat his opponents when they appear to play against him ( and not play the game ) just to win.

England did really well, medal-wise....I'm proud of them.
Enjoyed the closing ceremony too....I hate to admit it, but I thought the Spice girls were looking great.....
Eric Idle was great too.....
The whole thing was entertaining, and poignant!!

Indeed, Team GB presented a fantastic Olympics and produced many champions. I love the closing ceremony - one never could have guessed how John Lennon's Imagine is so omnipotent; great to see the beautiful models, Spice Girls , Russell Brand's Beatles' I'm a Walrus revamp and all the great greats in pop music; and the ballet theme was like a remembrance of Princess Diana . Not least, the ever present sense of humour - Eric Idle ( ? ) old technology and falling into a hole; but the dance goes on. There's chic and sophistication throughout - London is the capital city of world culture.
I agree, the Spice girls were amazing - wish they'll get back and pep things up post Olympics. The wonder of British culture; a dream in an Olympic package.
Let's hope they can do as well with running the country and the economy.
