Default Do you take a lot of pictures?

For all of you travelers, do you take a lot of pictures. Moving to a new country must mean you encounter many new things; do you like to take pictures of all these new things?

I always took a lot, but since I went digital I've gone nuts. Since I don't have to consider film and developing costs, I just take anything that strikes me, from every angle I can think of.

I have noticed that after I've been somewhere a while, I get used to things, and figure I must already have a shot just like it, so why bother. Then I discover that I don't have one at all, and it is too late.

I'm with Synthia. My computer is overflowing (well, sorta, you know) with photos from all over the place. My husband travels a lot on business, and when possible, I go with him. So yes, I'm constantly snapping pics.

I do find though that every time I have a visitor coming from America or Canada I start noticing things around here that I've started taking for granted. So out comes the camera YET again here at home.

Think digital , so you take one just in case , one click and it's gone , if you already have one of a particular place or thing .I have commited hundreds to CD's , keeps the computer less crowded and up to speed , i do not sort them into specifics as it makes the reshow more interesting to other people , nothing more boring than 50 shots of a newborns first week of progress from 'Pink "to natural . LOL Colin

I'm going to get an external drive to store the pictures on. Because when I get a new laptop, which I sorely need, I don't want to transfer the pictures. Besides being a lot of work, jpeg degrades with every save. A few laptops down the road and I'll have all artifacts.

We're looking at thumb drives for that very thing, Synthia. Well, that and my husband's music.

At our rented house we had all our computers networked and either of us could easily get to anything on any computer. We just bought a house and the wi-fi doesn't work well upstairs. So until we drill a hole through the ceiling/floor to flow a cable, I can't access hubby's main computer to get to his songs, and he can't access mine to get to pics.

We've been doing research today and we're looking at thumbdrives ranging from 2 gig for £20 to 8 gig for £60. Hmm. That doesn't look right now, and all the history is on hubby's laptop (which is currently engaged in fighting off some hordes invading his kingdom or something like that).

But the thumbdrives are definitely looking like the best route for us anyway. They plug directly into your USB and when not in use can fit into the tiniest drawer in your house. Should be available at any computer store. Have a look around before committing to an external hard drive which plugs into the wall and takes up a lot of space (and can cook eggs for you when it's been left on for any amount of time).

I even take pictures of signs with opening hours and of documents. It is nice to have back up documentation easily accessed on your computer. Of course, you have to have a pretty good photo organization system.

Yep as with everyone else on this thread we've gone digital. Then we update our blog with our photos and send everyone a link in an email so that they can see them too. It's a great way of keeping everyone up to date with what's going on. The blog we use is at www.blogger.com since it's free but there may be other free blogs out there too.

Regards,
Karen

Thanks for the tip --- we just slugged over one for weeks and it is still not working perfectly. Might just be time to cut our losses!
