Hello,
Does the teaching position require someone with a TFEL certification? I don't have it but have been thinking of taking a course for it. What I have is a bachelor degree in Psychology. Might that work out?

Thanks,
T

Hi,

I have been living in France for just over one year now and have recently completed a TEFL online course. I am now looking for employment and although I do not have any practical english teaching experience, I do have numerous years experience of training and coaching in the area of sales.

I am currently unemplyed however I am actively looking for either full or part time positions in the Villefranche/Lyon area.

I have attached my curriculum vitae for your perusal and should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Lisa Nahedh

Hi,

I read your thread and wonder whether you know of any opportunities in Perpignan at all? My family and I are looking to move to Perpignan net year and will need to find work. I have started a TEFL/TESOL course online, as well as a proof reading course, however, in the UK I work as a solicitor. I speak French, almost fluently, although my written French would need some brushing up. Any advice you could give would be hugely appreciated.

Kind Regards
Jo

  • Hi,
I am just thinking of taking a TEFL course in Montpellier and wondering if that course is something that realy can help in finding a job as a teacher in France?
I have a master degree and I am a professor of English language and literature ,and I also have 5 years of teaching experience. Do I really need to take a TEFL just to have an opportunity to work in France ,cause I am a foreigner.
I am not in France at the moment ,but I am thinking to move there next year.
What about the verification of my diploma there?

    Best wishes,
    Azelma

In my experience, it isn't absolutely necessary to verify your foreign diplomas unless you are in a profession where the State requires a particular training.

For teaching English, the TEFL certification is pretty well recognized, and generally is of interest primarily to your potential employer - not to the State. There are zillions of native English speakers in France who try to make a living or even just pick up a bit of spare cash by teaching English, and to some extent, it's "thanks" to them that teaching English is so poorly paid.

The most reputable language schools generally require either TEFL certification or verifiable teaching experience of their staff - in part simply to assure a certain level of quality. And its the reputable language schools that pay a bit better than those of the "I can speak English pretty good, therefore sure I can teach it" variety.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi Azelma,

I'm not sure whether its necessary or not, I took the course because I have no teaching experience. I've only just started looking for employment so its early days for me yet.

Hope this helps,

Lisa

Hi there,

Sorry about the delayed response - none of the messages came through to my inbox so I thought that there was no interest!

I can only speak for the company we work for, but to be honest we don't look at teaching qualifications as much as we look at personality, the ability to animate a group discussion, natural teaching ability and enthusiasm.

As for the American vs. British debate, we get the occasional request for one or the other but it's very rare. Personally, I'm from New Zealand so I'm neither and have never had a complaint!

I hope this helps and sorry again for the late reply!

Kylie

Hi,

Thanks for your interest and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The company is ILTC - our website is ILTC: DIF, cours de langues, traduction. We've been around for 25 years and focus mainly on English teaching. Our approach is very interactive and we concentrate on getting students comfortable and confident about their English abilities, because most have already done years of grammar study.

As I said in a previous reply, we're not so concerned about qualifications as we are about personality and your 'presence' in a classroom.

Classes vary - we do one-on-one lessons with business people (in person or over the phone), group lessons with business schools and governmental organisations, and also some specialised courses that are open to the public. We prefer not to teach classes with any more than 16 students - much bigger and it becomes a lecture instead of training.

I hope that helps! Feel free to contact me through the website for more information.

Yours,
Kylie

We are both followed an international education in the Netherlands and have been educated to degree level although we do not have teaching certificates we do have experience in teaching and working with children and adults.

We would like to know more about your company (name, history, website etc..) and what an average week of teaching would look like (hours, salary, class size).

Lastly, would we be required to speak French fluently or is adequate french enough?

I look forward to hearing from and sending over our CV's.

With Kind Regards,

Noor and Kiri

Hi,

Please see the above post for more information. The company is ILTC, and we negotiate rates with our trainers at the interview stage. It depends on your skills and experience.

I hope this helps.

Yours,
Kylie
