Question Jobs in/around Nice

Hi

My husband and I are looking at moving to Nice over the next 18 months. We are both in our 30s with me working in Banking and my husband in Telecommunications. Can anyone advise the best way to find employment such as any good headhunters or such like. We are quite happy to try something different if we cannot get jobs in our specialist sectors.

I am fluent in French whereas my husband is having to start from scratch at night classes.

Thanks for any help which you guys can give us.

Gilliane

Hi!

Most people will advise you not to move to France, until you have a job - and this means a DDI ( contrat à durée indéterminée) after the trial period.

Even if you are a specialist, there will be always the question of having your speciality recognized - eg. there is certainly a need for language teachers in France, but getting a job - with a decent pay - is quite a different question.
You can eventually get a job at minimum wage for 9 months locally, but afterwards you will have to go elsewhere, and it will hardly be on your doorstep, and the same low salary.

Trying to get a job over an GB company with location in France will be not as tough, as long as you have a EC passeport.

Yours,

giantpanda

you can try some language schools in Nice, if you have a degree, (at least equivalent to a "licence") they may hire you.
("alpha b" or "ABC school" are the most famous ones) Try also the Sophia antipolis area, they're looking for native speakers all the time.
But giantpanda has a point, it is really hard to find a job in France, and even harder in Nice.

Good luck with all the decision making and job hunting! I can't offer any practical advice I'm afraid as we are in negotiations with my husbands firm as they want us to relocate to Nice next year. If all goes well and we agree terms that mean we can live as comfortably out there as here then we'll go. With two young children (2 and 4) I've decided I'm happy not to work initially - I currently work in education - which will give me time to improve my french significantly from a 'good amateur!'.

I'll keep my eye out for you on this forum, but just wanted to say good luck for now.
