Default Healthcare and S1 for UK/Australian

We are planning to retire to France next year. I am 60 and originally from Poland, my husband is 66 and originally from UK. We both have dual citizenship - Poland/Australia and UK/Australia. My husband (66) is receiving full UK State pension. We have lived in Australia for 31 years.

We are confused about S1 and our healthcare options in France. Questions:

1. can my husband receive S1 as UK State pensioner even if he has not lived in UK for 31 years?

2. can I be included on his S1 as a dependant even if I have never lived in UK?

3. if not to above what can we do to be fully covered?

We are currently covered by Medicare and private insurance in Australia, as I understand it my husband would be fully covered by NHS if we moved to UK. I assume I would also be covered in UK as his wife and EU Polish citizen. Am I right?

1) Yes, he can apply for an S1 as soon as he has an address in France.
2) I believe so
3) You will need a top up insurance at least, I recommend you contact Catherine Lewis at A.R.C.C.

Also call Newcastle and explain the situation, they are very helpful indeed.

Bon chance
