Default "suburban+car" or "downtown"?

Hi, guys,

I am trying to figure out which one is more cheap: To live in suburban plus a car (I thought I like this one), or to stay just in the downtown, which one is more cheap and convenient?

What could be the cost of owning a car in France? Any advices?

thanks in advance.

Best

Hi!

Here a link about running a car in France with nearly all aspects.

Guide pratique de l'ADEME, La voiture

It will all depend what size town ( because of the rent ) or city you wish to favor, and how you conceive life.

Yours,

giantpanda

One factor to take into consideration - if you're living and working in Paris (or, I believe a handful of the other larger cities in France), your employer subsidizes one half the cost of a monthly transit pass covering the zones from your home to your place of work.

This can make it considerably cheaper to live in a suburb with good transit access to your place of employment, because then you can use the transit pass all month long for personal travel as well as commuting.

OTOH, getting a month's worth of groceries or the supplies for a major building project home from the store on the bus or métro can be a real challenge. You need to take your lifestyle into consideration as well.
Cheers,
Bev
