Default Need infos please

Hi everyone!

I am French and after 2 years travelling around the world and one year living in Uk with my english boyfriend, i finally manage to convince him to come to live in France! And surprise ! he is now more excited that me!

His French is a good basic for the moment but he is improving every day and I am confident that after 3 months, he will be able to follow a conversation in French. We also have the chance to have the support of my parents and we can stay in their house in Strasbourg, Alsace as long as we need.
So finding a job and a place to stay don't really put any pression on us at the moment.
My only stress is the administrative part of the things. I struggle to find any info about what has to do an English native to live in France...Like for the medical care ( this E106 is only if you still pay the tax in UK no?), banks, work etc......My boyfriend is thinking about going to work in Switzerland, we will be on the border and there is loads of aircraft engineering company, how is the market for foreigners people in Switzerland?

Well any tips and advices would be much appreciated...

Thanks for your help.
Mel

My 'nephew-in-law' is an Irish-German (or German Irishman, if you prefer) he lives in Switzerland with his Swiss-French gf and never has any trouble finding work.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Most of what you're looking for you should be able to find on the Service Public website: SERVICE PUBLIC - Particuliers under the rubric "Etrangers en France". As a British citizen, he shouldn't have too much trouble with the administration. If he has been paying into the UK health services, the E106 should hold him at least for a short period of time while he looks for work (in France or in Switzerland). If he hasn't been working in the UK, I'm not so sure what his situation will be.

For setting up a bank account or finding work, he'll need to have some form of id to prove his British nationality. The prefecture doesn't issue cartes de séjour to EU nationals anymore (at least not in our département) so he will need an current passport or national i.d. (which I understand the Brits don't issue - yet).

He might also want to take a look at the EU Eures pages (concerned with job mobility for Europeans) for some ideas about his rights and working conditions in France and Switzerland: EUROPA - EURES - the European Job Mobility Portal
Cheers,
Bev

Hi!

For the Health insurance, if you are entitled to the French CMU, he can be insured as " ayant droit ".

Then you are "concubins" or if you like it better( or your parents ), living en " union libre ".

See :

Union libre - Service-public.fr

and more specially:

Union libre : protection sociale - Service-public.fr

Yours,

giantpanda

Thumbs up Thank you and one more....

Before leaving the UK, I ve been advised by my employer to complete a Income Tax Claim Form and to request a E301 Form. Does my English boyfriend have to do the same?
Can he claim any tax back as a UK citizen going to leave permanently in an other country?
And this E301 form is the french gouvernement in case of unemployment over there, does it also apply to him?

Once again, thank you all for your help.

Cheers,

Mel

If your boyfriend has been working and paying taxes in the UK over the last year or so, he should probably contact the income tax authority before he moves out of the country. Not sure if he (or you) will be able to claim back taxes, but you both need to register your intent to change your residence (and thus be relieved of the need to file further UK tax declarations).

I believe it is possible to draw your unemployment benefits after moving to another country within the EU, but last I knew, you first have to be qualified for benefits in the country where you have been working. Then, I believe the benefits in the new country are limited to three months or so - and you must be actively looking for work if you continue to draw benefits.
Cheers,
Bev
