Hi, does anyone live in Lyon by any chance? I have just landed here and am settling in. Looking for people in the Rhone-Alpes region who are interested in sharing their story with me. I am not only just settling in but I was thinking I would write some tips for other new people who are in the same boat as I am; ie totally out of my depth but quite excited by living the French way of life.

Thanks Natalia

I do not live there, but I might consider going there. What is good in Lyon?

Hi Natalia,

We are English and have just moved to Lyon, living in Zone 6. Don't really have any tips at the moment as getting things straight in the apartment (we have a 10 month old baby). If you want to meet up let me know.

Hello Natalia,

I have lived in Lyon for 2 years. It's a nice city, less stressful than Paris but still with a lot to do.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Peter

Default Looking to meet some young-ish people in Lyon

Hi -

My husband and I (we are mid 30s) moved to Lyon 2 mo ago from Montreal, Canada and are getting a little lonely!

I work at Universite Claude Bernard Lyon1 in as a faculty developer and he is developing a European market for a large manufacturer. I don't really know what else to say about us... we enjoy food, love travelling, go to the gym fairly regularly, miss our families. Sounds pretty dull right now but it has been a long week! I have never worked in French before, so that is adding an extra level of challenge to my new job. But I really like it!

We live in the 6th, just south of Parc Tete D'Or.
Anyone for a picnic? A drink after work? An afternoon coffee?
Siara

Default 6 months

Hi everyone!
Glad i found this forum. My wife, 1year old son and myself are currently researching Lyon as a final destination to relocate from Britain.
However, we are first going to rent for six to nine months to ensure it is possible, etc.
Any advice appreciated on areas to rent/live in Lyon with a young family (we are mid 30's), my wife is fluent French, I'm an eager student!! but improving.
We would also like to work in the area, schooling, etc.
Any worthwhile information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Default hello!

Hi Steve -

We rented a lovely furnished flat for a week for our exploratory trip, and then another for a month when we first arrived from chambreslyon dot com (you can write to them in English). They are much more personal than the apt-hotel and will give you a much better idea of what it is like to live in a given neighbourhood (before you sign the lease).

If you have more specific questions, I would be happy to help

Siara

Do take a look into the AVF (Accueil des Villes Françaises) organization in Lyon, especially the international group AVF -- Accueil

AVF is a "welcome group" with branches throughout France. Lyon has close to a dozen local groups. It's a nice way to meet people and get to know the area.
Cheers,
Bev
