Default Visa question for Husband - Can he work?

Hello,

I have just arrived in Paris from the USA and I am working on my Carte de Sejour. (As you know it is a long process.) I have a contract to work with my company that has an unlimited time period.

I am marrying my fiance in one months time in the USA as we had planned this prior to my receiving the offer to work in France. I know that he is going to have to start the visa process after we are married. I also am aware he will have to return to the USA to finish the Visa process. Is it possible to ask for a type of Visa that will allow him to work in France?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Sarah

Actually, it's sort of the other way around. If you're getting married in the US, your fiancé (husband) should start the visa process in the US more or less immediately after the wedding.

You can ask at the French consulate closest to where he lives, but I suspect that for him to get a working visa, he will have to have a job offer in hand (and in French). He should be able to get a dependent's visa fairly easily, once the wedding has happened, but usually those visas do not permit the "trailing spouse" to work. (You should still count on the visa taking a good 3 months to come through - maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised, but 3 months is about average.)

Once he has joined you in France, if he finds a job where they are willing to sponsor him for a visa, he'll probably have to return to the US to make the application and then re-enter France on his new visa.

Of course, like all things in France, it depends a bit on what he does, how good his French is and lots of other factors it is difficult to judge at a distance.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi!

The red tape... no way around this for working as a non-EC citizen. As you will see rather dissuasive.

Etrangers en France - Service-public.fr

Part of it you know - but since you have no mentionned anything, it can depend on the fact you work to " gouvernement services"??

Yours,
