TV in France

Hi

We have a second home in Provence. At the moment we have an ordinary old TV plugged into an aerial point in the house. We can only receive the basic French channels (5 I think). The house was built 6 years ago and is on a development where all the houses are wired up to a central TV antenna sited in the pool house.

We would now like to buy a set top decoder so that we can access the free view French TNT service.

Does anyone have any experience if that would work with a communal antenna? And assuming it does, once I have my decoder, what do I do next??

We are not huge UK TV watchers so not interested in getting UK programs whilst in France, but would be nice to see more French TV (and helps with language) whilst there.Any advice gratefully received.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

According to a quick scan of the TNT website, you may well be in luck. The main thing seems to be that your antenna is less than 10 years old. Here's the site: TNT, TELEVISION NUMERIQUE TERRESTRE, TNT-FRANCE and there are links to companies that can do the installation and determine which decoder you need for your tv and set-up.

TNT works with any antenna. I use a small indoor antenna in Paris to get the TNT signal (in addition to the TNT decoder ofcourse) and the reception is perfect. The only thing is to check if your area or region receives the TNT signal which is not the case for all rural zones. Check the TNT zones on the internet.

Hi!

Just for control talk to your neighbours to the "syndic" or to the Commune.

A TNT decoder is pretty cheap and easy to install yourself.( they have English instructions)
