Default Young gent looking to move to the Perpignan area. Where to find work?

Hi all,
I've just discovered the forum and its been really useful so far.
I am planning to move down to the Perpignan area on the 29th August 08.

Currently I work as a mortgage advisor in the cheltenham area. I have alot of sales experience, I'm a talented car mechanic, exellent computer skills (Building and servicing PCs) and have good plumbing and electrician skills.

I speak french to around GCSE level and can get by on basic conversation.

I have sorted out accomodation with a friend in Perpignan so i just need to secure work.

Where is the best place to start looking?

Many thanks for any replies.

Tom

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your best bet would probably be to pull together a French style resume, get one of those books of "lettres de motivation" and start working your way through the job ads in the local newspaper when you get there. Or try the online job posting sites, like Monster.fr or the like.

The French tend to place great credence in your formal training (anything you can show a certificate for) rather than skills you may have picked up on your own along the way. Resumes tend to be modest and factual without great amplification about what you did on each job. Hiring decisions can take a long time, especially for the better jobs.
Cheers,
Bev
