Default Schools in and around Montpellier

Hello everyone
I am new to this forum and currently live in Adelaide Australia......I am looking for info on schools in and around Montpellier as a move to this region is possible for next year. My children will be 15 , 14 and 9 by the time we move, currently only the littleist one learns French at school... we are all about to embark on french lessons however. Also will need to find a cricket club ...but have already been in touch with Cricket France and this seems possible, and they seem willing to help my cricket mad son find a game.Anyway hope some can give me some advice as it all seems quite mad at the moment.

Hi Kate,

I live near Montpellier but can't really help as I don't have any children! However there is an excellent forum for those living in the Languedoc that if you were to post a question there, I am sure you will get a response. I know there is a good thread on this very issue on the LanguedocLiving forum - check it out.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

The number of bilingual schools is fairly limited in most parts of France. The public bi-lingual schools are often limited to lycée (i.e. high school) and sometimes collège (junior high), but these are usually only in a few big cities, and (at least for the ones I know) entrance is competitive and not guaranteed for native speakers of the "other" language.

Your best bet is probably to check out the private school mentioned in post #4.
Cheers,
Bev

There is the bilingual school in Baillargues - which is the one you mention - there next nearest (apart from Maternelles) is in Aix en Provence.... or even Marseilles.

My site has lots of links:

So where are your kids going to school? and have you found a swimming club/ coach? As far as I can gather the only english speaking/ teaching schools are in Nice, Mougins and Paris - they are all private (overpriced for the facilities and options) and no comparison to UK private school.
We are incredibly frustrated and it incredibky frustrated that there isn' t a better int'l infra structure for education.

Are you looking for an "english-only" school, or for a bi-lingual school?

You may want to contact (in the fall) the AAWE about a copy of their publication about education in France: AAWE Publications
