Default English in La Rochelle

I have been in La Rochelle for 11months now and I have really struggled to find English friends my own age or for that matter English people living here. I have made a few friends here who are French or Polish but I really would like to find people around 25-30 who are English. I am a member of On Va Sortir which is a great site and I have joined groups in order to aid my search with no luck. Is there any English out there
Also I am searching for a good English speaking doctor if anyone knows of one pls let me know....

Thanks for any responses...

I too am an anglo-expat recently transplanted to the region (ile de re) and am looking for like-minded, english speaking friends. While I speak french and have some french friends (mostly through my spouse whom is french) I am looking as well for english speaking female friends. I was living in Paris the last 2 years and NYC prior to that and am desperately missing city life.
I do have a good doctor on the island but not sure he speaks much english.

I have recently moved to La Rochelle with my French boyfriend. I am 25, studying through Open Learning, trying to learn French and looking for part-time work here. I've lived in different places around the world, but finding it difficult to settle here as I am not working and only have basic French at the moment. Would be up for meeting for a coffee if you like?

You can give this a shot:AngloINFO France. Everything for expats living in or moving to France Maybe a classified add?

It's going to be a challenge finding people in your age bracket as it's mostly retiree expats but you may luck out.

You can also look at your town's official website under Vie Associative, or something similar to see if there are any English or European associations.

For On Va Sortir, if you haven't already done this, start a discussion under the category "I speak English" and see who responds.

Good Luck

Sandra,

For future reference It's probably not a good idea to post your telephone number or email address as you don't know whose out there in etherland.

Check the Forum rules for posting private messages messages. It may save you some unwanted attention.

Cheers

As Coton90 said, it's not a good idea to post your personal contact info on an open message board like this. You'll be able to post and receive personal messages once you've posted 5 messages. (Please don't post nonsense messages just to get to the count.) You're nearly half way there!
Cheers,
Bev

Also another English speaker living close to la rochelle (Chatelaillon plage). I'm also looking for other english speaking people to meet up with. I'm 20 and I recently just had a baby so some mom friends would be awesome but definitely not limited to just moms!

Hi there,
My name is Joanna, I am canadian and moving to France very soon with my French boyfriend. We will be moving to Les Sables D'Olonnes in April 2011 and I think it will be very important for me to make my own friends. I am worried that I will feel like a hanger on as he has so much family and friends in the area already.
I would love to get together with anyone interested...does anyone live even closer than la Rochelle? My bf Alex has told me though, that it is only about 30km away.

I like to exercise outside, am fully bilingual, like to go to cafés, read...explore...meet new people...

Joanna

Hi, it might be worth your while looking for AVF - they are dotted around all over France and run by ex-pat English to integrate English and French into the community in a new area - you will have to pay a joining fee which is pretty low and you can attend their evenings of crafts/languages/cookery or whatever they do in your area. I moved to france with my retired parents and after moving to a new home in July last year, we joined AVF in October and have English friends coming out of our ears, once you know one or two you end up knowing pretty much everyone! You can also have a look at Angloinfo online and do a search in your area for anything that's going on, you will have to put yourself out there a bit but it isn't too painful! Good luck!
