The information may be a little out of date, but this publication by the French government provides a very good overview of the French tax system in English: http://www.impots.gouv.fr/portal/dep...ptive_1006.pdf
Cheers,
Bev

You mentioned you have studied tax. I wonder if it would be possible to arrange for a paid consultation with you. I understand completely that you are not an accountant and would not be giving financial advice. To be honest, what I would like is to gain an overview (or really to confirm what I have read on the internet) of the taxes we would be responsible for in France.

Thank you for your consideration of my request.

Hi,
Thank you for your confidence. I cannot get involved in giving paid advice as this would raise tax issues for me; for the next few days we are tied up with visitors , but when I have time I will PM you with a brief summary of french taxes etc. If in the meantime you explore this, and some other, forums you should be able to find what you want.

Thank you for your reply. I will do what you advised and study all that I can find.
And, yes, if you have the time, I welcome hearing from you. I hope you and your visitors have a lovely time together. Maryanne

hope this reply isnt too 'off thread'...

i have 2 assurance vie policies, both set up on the same month (March 2008) with 2 seperate companies (Fortuneo and Boursorama Bank). The amount is fairly substantial, about 2/3rds of it in Bourso.

Recently Bourso Bank chanrges have been going up and up, and i find that funds in Fortuneo are free where i'm paying 1.5% fees with Bourso for the same fund. It looks like i cant automatically transfer my assurance vie to another insurer.... so it looks like the only way possible is to withdraw the funds with 'rachat' and then place them in Fortuneo with a versement.

The funds in Bourso are in the red - not in profit, so i'm guessing there will be little or no taxes and charges to pay because i have no 'profit' to take (thanks to risky investments and the crisis).

When the money is then placed in Fortuneo, do i then loose the tax 'years aquired' threshholds and have to start again bulding towards my 8 years? Is the 8 year rule based on the day the Assurance vie was opened (2008), or the day the funds were transferred (2013) ?

Can anyone give me information on how it works, and is there anything else that i havnt thought about that would influence this desicion?

Thanks for any info supplied.

As far as I know, you can add and withdraw funds from Fortuneo at will without losing the tax years benefit. If I am wrong I am sure someone will be along soon to correct me.

Hi,
Tinabee is correct; the "ancienité" of the Fortuneo ,with tax advantages, starts from the first subscription, and covers all subsequent investments.
