Default passport renewal visa and carte de séjour

Hello again,

another day, another question...I am placing it on this old thread, although it has nothing do do with the original question.

Does anyone know what happens to your current visa and carte de sejour (which they now stick directly onto a page in your passport) if one needs to 'renew' their passport??? Do I lose these valuable documents, or do they send the old passport back to me, or do they transplant them into the new one?

thank you in advance for any wisdom!

I say odd because it has been several years since they (here in Nice) glued my titre de sejour into my passport. For quite some years now they have given me a seperate card. But other than that i can't help with your question.

And I've spun this into its own thread as it will no doubt be of interest to others.

You do indeed get your old passport back when you renew a US passport, and you will need to carry the old passport and the new one any time you need the visa and/or carte de séjour attached to the old passport.

At one time, it was possible to transfer certain types of documents into the new passport, but I haven't heard of them doing this in quite a while. (I can see why the various government agencies would frown on the practice.)
Cheers,
Bev

It seems to depend on the prefecture where you get your carte de séjour. Plus, there is this new procedure whereby new arrivals only get a "validated visa" from the OFII which serves for their first year in France as a "titre de séjour." After the first year, they may get a separate card, or in some areas a "carte" attached to their passport.
Cheers,
Bev

How bizarre! My titre de sejour was put in my passport but for my carte de sejour (which I've applied and am now waiting for), I'll be getting that in the form of a card. I have a temp carte de sejour at the moment which is on a piece of paper that I have to keep with my passport for when my visa expires next month. Apparently the carte de sejour can take up to 3mnths to process (in Strasbourg anyway).

Yes, I seem to have confused you, yeehoo - I should have made a new thread, which Bev smartly did already - as my question really had nothing to do with your 2year old question. As you can see above, much has changed in French admin in regards to this stuff, within a relatively short period of time.

Yes this is my experience, as one of the first to go through the new system last summer, with a 'validated visa' and then this yellow sticker thing looking like this...(for those of you who want to know what I am talking about, or who have the same) if the image link works...?

.[/URL]

I do not know what I will receive for the second, as it is now mandatory to renew every year. Has anyone already renewed one of these 'sticker thingy' carte de sejours ?

thanks!
