Ive been living in Spain for 6 years. I have visited southern France and would like to leave Spain and try France. My past is in Sales/management but i also play guitar and sing well enough to earn money here in the bars and clubs.
I need advice/help with accommodation to make the move. Please contact me at and please then have a think if you can help! Thanx for looking. Al. Last edited by Bevdeforges : 10th May 2008 at 09:02 PM. |

Hi Al, and welcome to the forum.
Any particular reason for making the move from Spain to France? I only ask because there are some similarities between the countries, and some ways in which they can be very different. One big consideration is: do you have the language skills? Living in France is tough unless you speak French reasonably well. And if you are hoping to make a living playing guitar, you'll be expected to sign on with the "caisses" for national insurances that cover performers. Do you have a particular area in mind? Oh and BTW, I removed your phone number from your original post. It's not a great idea to post that kind of personal contact info in public. You never know who might be lurking. Cheers, Bev |

Thanx for the advice and for removing the phone number, I guess your right there. I have only a little French but I will be learning as I did Spanish when I moved here.
The reasons I want to move to france are many but Iv.e had a run of personal rubbish and feel like I need to move on from here. If you google al hewitt in depth you will see my almost finished web site. Thanx for your advice any more will be welcome. |

France is a tough country for foreigners, particularly anglophones (or as they call us here, "anglo-saxons"). There are lots of great things here (especially in the eating and drinking department), but there are cultural differences that will drive you absolutely insane.
It really helps to be running "to" someplace like France rather than running "from" something or someplace. Chances are, you won't escape anything here, and you may well find an even greater source of aggravation. But if you have a reason to want to be here and to stay here, the other stuff will ultimately work itself out. (In my case it "only" took me seven years to come to terms with France.) Cheers, Bev |

I was wondering what some of those cultural differences are. In Spain, for me, the difficult things have been the noise, the atrocious, rude, and dangerous driving, and that so few of the reasonable laws they have are enforced at all. I never thought I would become a person who would say they were for law and order!
