Angry Contractor stole from me

whilst working in our house on the renovations . We were all at home and he went into my wardrobe and took my some of my jewellry and cash. I didnt notice until a couple of days after he had left. What can I do?

Pretty much what you'd do in UK - make a list, report it to the police, and your insurance company.

Confront him directly.

Did he work "on the black"? If not, he has to have insurance and be registered with the Chambre de Commerce - report him to them. If yes, I'm afraid it's one of life's lessons, 'cos you can be punished for employing someone "on the black".

No, he is legit. I'm thinking of confronting him directly but am sure that he will not admit it - what would happen if I refuse to pay him the balance due from a legal point of view?
