Default need answers pls.

Hi,
My 4 y.o son and I are already installed in Toulouse for 6 months. he is v happy with his school and friends.
I am Australian, my husband from US, commutes to france from North africa to see us every fortnight.

I have my recipisee, passed the visit medicale, waited for carte de sejour for 3 months, they say its normal with long delays.

I want to work. I was adviced by the mairie that i need my carte de sejour (1 year stay), then i should apply for visa which will then take several months. Is this accurate?

Or could i go to job agencies, look for a job and the company will get me the visa?

My french is advanced, although writing a document could be a challenge.

Thank you in advance.

Three months for a visa is about standard. (I strongly suspect they "lager" the files on someone's desk for most of that time.) Though didn't you have to have a visa in order to apply for the carte de séjour?

When you get your carte de séjour it will state whether or not you are cleared to work, based on your original application. Normally, you have to go back to your home country to apply for a different visa, though there is a provision to apply for a visa at the local prefecture if you are married to a French national. (Which doesn't seem to be your case.)

You may want to take a look at this page on the Service-Public website: Travail des étrangers - Service-public.fr for more information about what it takes to get working authorization in France. It can be very difficult to get working authorization once you are already in France.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi!

You have a rather complicated situation as regards your health situation, and that comes 1st before the question of working.

How are you covered for health insurance? In which country? Is there an agreement, between the country and France.

eg. If you ( or your husband ) are entitled to a E106, then you would be covered for 2 years.

As regards working in France, in fact also staying in France, you are unfortunately in the case of non-EU persons, which has been recently stiffend:

You have to start here and look at the links proposed:

Etrangers en France - Service-public.fr

Yours,

giantpanda
