Hi i'm thinking of moving to France in a year or two once i have got to grips with the language. I am 40 years of age and i have been a police officer for the last 8 years and i have no trade or other skills. I saw on this site that there are a shortage of house painters in France. can anyone let me know how difficult it would be to get started up in business doing this and any walls that may be put up in my way. Or, if there is anyone out there who knows of an organisation that would like to employ an ex police officer then let me know!? Cheers.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Hm, haven't heard of a shortage of house painters here... Most houses at least here in the Paris region are stone or stucco. I've seen a couple of the neighbors re-do the stucco (and we probably ought to think about having that done sometime, too), but no one seems to paint the outside of the house here.

Starting up in business in France is always, well, an "experience." The registration process is a bit involved, and you will definitely have to be ready to do everything in French. There are some proposals out there to try and simplify things for us small business types.
Cheers,
Bev

I think your best bet if you are starting up a small business in france would be to seek professional help with all of the paperwork etc. Unless you are fluent in French you will probably struggle with a lot of the jargon.
