Default Enrolling children in school

Hello,

Our family is moving for 1 year to Avignon commencing this August. We have had our visas approved for the year and we are extremely excited about the move. One thing that we are a little unsure of is how to register our children in school. They are 7 and 4 (our 7 year old has completed two years of schooling in a french immersion school). We have sent off emails to the school that is closest to our rental apartment but as of yet no word back. We arrive in Avignon on the 18th of August so we are starting to get stressed about finding them a school in time for the school year.

Thanks for your help,

Barry Henderson
Vancouver, Canada

On arrival, go in to your local mairie and ask to enroll your children in school. (The mairie may have limited hours during the month of August - like everything else in France.)

The individual schools have absolutely no power to do anything. The mairie will let you know which school your children will attend and can give you all the necessary information.
Cheers,
Bev

Welcome back Barry, glad it's all worked out. Shame you're not in Avignon for the July-long performing arts festivities!

As Bev says above. And you can start practising your French by checking out the step-by-step guide on this Education Ministry page
