Default London to Versailles - removals and storage advice please

Hi,

I'm relocating from London to Versailles at the end of May, but, having not been in London very long, I have no idea who to use for removals and storage.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

My company is putting me in a hotel for the first month after arriving, (but aren't paying for removals), and they will have an agency helping me find somewhere to live, but I don't know what to do about the stuff I will ultimately need to bring.

I am not moving furniture, just approximately 6 boxes of clothes and things.

Should I store them in London, until I've found my apartment, or ship them ahead and store them in Versailles?

And can anyone please recommend a company to do both?

Any advice would absolutely be appreciated

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Unless you're real fluent in French and somewhat familiar with France, I'd look for a shipper and storage company in the London area, and have your stuff shipped to you once you've found an apartment in Versailles.

Though I don't have any personal experience on the London to Versailles run, I have found that French rules and practices for things such as moving and storage can sometimes be a bit "surprising." At least if you work with a British shipper and storage facility, there shouldn't be too many surprises, and if something happens, you can deal by phone in your own language.

A friend of mine living here in France moved back to the UK, and the move was paid by the company her husband had worked for. They specifically told her that they would engage a British or German removal company, simply because they "had bad experiences" with the French companies they had used in the past. Now, it's possible the bad experiences were the result of misunderstandings, but it's generally easier to go with the language and culture you know, at least when first moving to another country.

Just my take, anyhow.
Cheers,
Bev

I used a company called Sevenseas, who you can contact at SevenSeasWorldwide - they specialise in removal of personal goods and not furniture. They were very good, fast and very reasonable. We also moved a lot further than you - London to Buenos Aires.

And as has been said, the advantage is the language.

Good luck with your move.

Michelle
