Lightbulb Suggest a good place to live

My husband works around much of France, with a large amount of work in Toulouse. We are looking to relocate with two young children somewhere near. We are not sure where, maybe someone would have a suggestions. I would like somewhere not too remote or rural, village life is nice but somewhere close to other British speaking(expats), although I would like to intergrate with the French, especially if I get the children into French school. We have looked at Gaillac and near. I feel very confussed at the moment, have a visit soon to do some more homework. Any help?

There are some British expats in the Toulouse area, and I hear there are some around Pau, too. Your children will pick up the language like little sponges, and will probably translate for you and your husband before long.

You should start learning (or brushing up) your French now - even if it's just a set of tapes or CDs you can listen and repeat while in the car. When you get to France, ask at the local mairie (town hall) about language lessons. Not only will you learn the language, but it's a great place to meet other foreigners (maybe even some English speakers!).

To find English speaking expats, check with the British and US Embassies (or their websites). They normally publish a list of expat groups, along with lists of English speaking doctors and other professional people, which can be useful.

Making the move is a real pain, and confusion is probably the proper emotion for the moment. But once you find a place to settle, things tend to fall into place. Just make sure you are working on the language skills - that's your best step toward integrating yourself into the new environment.
Cheers,
Bev
