Hi I am hoping to move to Beziers or surrounding areas. Could someone please give me some info regarding this town. ie. Public transport, shop etc, are there many Expats living there, and if so how do they get on with local people. Hope to hear from you:

Hi, and welcome to the forum - and France.

There is lots of information about Beziers on the town's official website here: Site officiel de la ville de Béziers as well as a link to the local tourist office.

Now, the first thing you'll notice is that the website is in French, with no obvious link to an English translation. There are lots of anglophone expats down in that area - I'm more familiar with the Montpellier crowd and I'm told there is also another anglophone cluster near Aix en Provence. But do brush up your French - it's key in getting on with the local folk. The Brits are often accused of "refusing" to learn the language and "expecting the locals to speak English" - but if you don't expect folks to speak English (most learned it in school and have forgotten most of what they know since then - or so they claim), you may be pleasantly surprised now and then.

Are you retiring or do you plan to work when you're down there? It can make a difference in how you integrate yourself into the community.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi

We live in the area , about10 minutes from Beziers
I wouldn't personally live in Beziers as it is a large town/city and has all the problems associated with that
In this area there are a lot of villages surrounding Beziers which are all very pretty and ideal for visiting or working in Beziers
There are a lot of british people here , there are local markets where british people meet up , there are a lot of british events that take place and you will meet loads of brits just by going shopping , eating out ; etc
We have two children aged 12 & 14 , we live close to Capestang

HI - I have just bought a house about an hour away from Beziers. The surrounding areas are lovely - Pezenas which is the the North East is a great place - lots of Brits there - they have a small journal publication for Expats - cannot remember the name but you can pick it up in Pezenas. All the Canal du Midi area is stunning and up in to the hills - which is where I am. The train runs through Beziers.

We live in a nearby village to Beziers. Beziers is a nice town during the day in particular, but it can be a bit rough at night from what I have heard. There is a great bus service from our village to the town with early buses for people to get to work and evening buses for those coming home. I think that the regional bus services in general from Beziers are good. SOme lovely restaurants and great scenery. I don't know much about what living in the town itself is like though. The villages around are very lively during the summer.
