Hi there,

Just a quick question regarding unwanted visitors - does anyone know what the law in france states about people coming on your property uninvited. We are not hemits but have problems with a difficult person calling unwanted to our house

Thanks for any comments,

Bunny

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

As far as I can tell, "property rights" aren't real high up on the list of protections here in France. You can't, for instance, ban hunting on your property if you own a piece of woodland where people like to hunt. We've found that folks seem to feel free to cross through gardens and farmland if it isn't fenced off or walled in. (That might explain the popularity of high hedges or walls around most private homes here. Most folks I know keep their exterior gates locked - maybe for this very reason.)

But you don't have to answer the door. And maybe building a fence around the property isn't a half bad idea.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi Bev,
Thanks for welcome and comments.
We have a wall and large gate on property....but I guess removing the knocker on the door for a few weeks may help.
Regards,
Tigerlilly

Hi!

people coming on your property uninvited.

It would be necessary to precise this - the scope is very large.

All you can really to is to go to the local Gendarmerie, if there is no local Police, and " déposer plainte ".

You will be lucky if they accept it, and not onloy just register it on the " main courante " ( daily incidents ) where they hardly budge. Then you need to repeat ( make photos ).

Yours,

giantpanda
