OK, got it thanks.

BTW, I just sourced the Euro DVD reader for $900 - tad pricey but worth considering.

So my question is "has anyone with a (main) mph speedo been denied a carte grise?" or is this just urban myth & legend as I suspect?
It's a myth.

Default gASPTER, DOES IT WORTH IT

I agree with you on this
The French. What a bunch of bureaucratic numbskulls!!! [/QUOTE]

I would kindly and modestly ask you to reconsider all the hassle to bring in you car: doe it worth it to undergo all this bureaucracy and pain just for a vehicle.
This Lexus is waiting for you:
for 46000 USD: LEXUS RX II 400H PACK PRESIDENT CVT - Boite de vitesse automatique -

If you consider downsizing, this car would fit your needs I presume:
for something like 22 thousand USD
HONDA CIVIC VIII 1.3 IMA HYBRID 4P - Kilométrage 13 600 -

Good luck and keep us posted.

Best

Your quotes do more to convince me I'm doing the right thing. $46000 is about the base price of a NEW car not a three year old version (at least here).

And downsizing is not part of the current thinking process

Cheers

David

Red face A difficult conclusion

Well,

The plan is over - we will not be bringing the Lexus to France.

For those who have been following this thread I apologize for not being able to complete the project. There are many reasons why we have taken this decision:

a) The cost of shipping has gone up considerably
b) The difference in value between our car and the French identical car has narrowed to the point where the original budget has been nullified
c) There were too many unknowns in the project - despite extensive research and much help from people here and on other forums, these remained a risk factor
d) Upgrading the Navigation System was proving expensive and again adversely affecting the economics

Gallus really put the lid on it (although I didn't admit it then) - he got me researching used RX400h models (again) and I found one identical in all respects to mine and for just €3000 more than the retail value of my car here. That clinched it, the technical challenges were not worth the benefits.

So, thanks again for reading and helping. Case closed

Cheers

David

Default Taking my UK registered, RH drive car to France

Am thinking of taking my RH drive car to France (Corsica) as have a house there, but I am also still resident in UK. The car is 12 years old and no value in the UK, so am getting new car in UK and wanted to take my existing car out to Corsica as a run around to local shop/ beach, on the basis that if it lasted me 2-3 years, be worth doing seeing it's value on resale in UK would be virtually nil (it's 12 years old)
It a Mistsubishi Pinin (Jeep) so will be ideal for the bumpy roads down to the more isolated beaches and in good mechanical order.

Is it complicated to do, is it worthwhile? If anyone can talk me through the process of what I will have to do, woudl be very appreciative. For example, will I need to re-register the car in France, or can I still maintain it as a UK registerd vehicle? I know that I will have to take out French insurance with a French insurer, but will they accept me if the car is still registed in UK and will I be able to get the equivelent of an MOT done in France for insurance purposes if a UK registered vehicle?

Any advice woudl be greatly appreciated

Default Oups

What a painful exercice. if you have time only ...

At least you know the Law allows you to use the car for 364 days without French registration.....

Or more if you are clever and go back to UK with it, so that the clock will be reset to zero when you bring it back to France (need to stay six months in the UK though). This gives you ample time to "kill" the vehicle.

Thanks Gallus

really appreciate the advice and I am under no illusions that it is going to be a pain in the neck but still keen to do it as just dont have the funds to buy a 2nd hand car in Corsica at the moment and renting is proving very expensive. If you know any
thing about the specific documents I need and where I need to take them and if I need to get anything translated, would be very helpful.
thanks again

You will definitely need a certificate of conformity to be able to register it in France. If you google "certificate of conformity France Mitsubishi" you will find useful info
