Default Personal recommendations for English speaking doctors and dentists in Paris?

Hi everyone

Can anybody recommend a good English speaking doctor and dentist? I need both I have a list of English speaking professionals in Paris but am looking for more personal recommendations. I don't mind whether they are male or female, but just a competent, thorough doctor and dentist.

Thanks so much!

You might want to try over at the American Hospital (in Neuilly) or the Hereford British Hospital, where all the staff are supposed to speak English. You're also more likely to get doctors and dentists who practice their profession in a slightly more "anglo-saxon" manner.

I know dentists here can be a real surprise. Friends occasionally tell me of one or two who have a dental hygienist, and who practice "four handed dentistry" like back in the US, but they are rare. Out where I live, my dentist (who trained for a while in the US) doesn't really do six-month exams and cleanings - he expects you to have "something wrong" when you show up in his office.

Similarly, I've found that doctors here don't seem to go in much for annual physical exams, though they will suggest you get standard blood work done every "few" years after a certain age.

It's a very different style of practice and it definitely takes some getting used to.
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks a lot Bev! Your location says "deepest, darkest Essonne" - I'm in Essonne too, so perhaps you would have some local recommendations??

I do have something wrong - painful wisdom teeth!! Verrry painful, hehe... but thank you very much for the tip about how the French "do" health care

Ah, so you're in Essonne, too. Probably shouldn't admit this, but none of my doctors speaks English (or at least they don't admit to it). My dentist studied in the US, but won't let me speak English in his office - because the first time I was in there, I was nervous and spoke too fast for him to understand me.

A few years ago, the US Embassy used to poll the different departments to find English speaking doctors (and other professionals) for their list. Essonne was always listed as "no one responded to our survey" - though I suspect at the time the prefecture was a little on the strict side, and may have looked at this kind of list as "advertising."

Let me check around. There may be a couple of English speaking doctors in the area around Orsay where I know some people. I'll get back to you after I've asked around.
Cheers,
Bev
