Can anyone recommend a good moving company to ship my things abroad. I don't have tons of stuff just a bunch of books, kitchen ware, and lots of shoes.

If you're planning on packing it yourself, you may want to consider getting a Packing and Mailing store to ship it for you. With a mover, you may find yourself waiting for another load headed for France so that the mover can fill a container - and that could take some time.

Just be careful that whoever you use as shipper, they are familiar with the paperwork for moving someone to France. You can mail the stuff to yourself, in fact, but be very careful that you indicate that everything is used and being sent in conjunction with a move to France. If you don't, you may find yourself paying VAT (at 19.6%) on everything in your shipment.

Prepare a list of everything you're sending yourself, and put one copy in with the shipment, keeping the other copy for yourself. If you are called to claim your goods at customs on their arrival, the list will come in handy - and you should be able to get your stuff into France with no VAT or customs duty to pay.
Cheers,
Bev
