Default Paris hotel - recommendations please

Hello
I'm looking for a small, cheap hotel for a short trip. Do you have any recommendations please? I'm not planning on spending much time in the room, but it would be nice to stay in a typical Parisian small hotel.
Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Living near Paris, I no longer have to worry about where to stay in the city - but there is a book out called "Cheap Sleeps in Paris" that used to be my bible on where to stay in the city. Their write-up of the hotels was very good - they noted what places were "typically Parisien" and which were just kind of groady.

That said, there is a very cheap hotel that I see from the RER when I go into Paris. It's just outside the city, near the "Cité Université" and the sign outside promises rooms for 49 euros a night. I don't think I'd want to stay there, though.

My favorite hotel from Cheap Sleeps is certainly the Hotel Istria in the 15th - Hotel Istria - OFFICIAL SITE - Paris Montparnasse Istria Hotel - but I suspect the rates have gone up considerably since I last stayed there. The family that owns the place is really nice - and it pays to book in advance (or according to the website, at the last minute if there are vacancies).
Cheers,
Bev

Try Hotel D'Orsay Arrondisement 7

Also if you are walking around try the red tourist bus, it pass's near the hotel and takes in most of the sites around the river E40.00 for 2 days, you can get off and on when you like, but watch the time of the last bus!
Takes in:-
Museum D'Orsay
Paris St Germain
Notre Dame
The Louvre
Champs Ellyses
Arc De Triomphe
Trocadero
Eiffel Tower
Then Back over to the south side D'Orsay etc etc
Good Value!

Also a Water Taxis ticket is around E24.00 for 2 days so that goes up and down ( same deal getting on/off) the middle of the red bus route!

Any thing else buy 10 metro tickets E11.00( last for ever) if you dont use them...

Regards

Hi, I’m sorry, I cannot suggest you any hotel because I have never visited paris but recently I got a site by Google search for you called sletoh dot com where you can find all types of hotel according to your budget and requirements. You can also book hotels online. Hope by this you will be delighted.
Cheers!

All the best!

I'm glad this thread was started, because I'll be there in September. I'm not overly concerned about price, although not looking to spend a large amount either. My question is regards to location and what would work best for access to all things, metro, museums, and monuments? Any recommendations for things to see and do outside of the city?

Default Staying in Paris - inexpensive Hotels

There's a website called EUROCHEAPO (are you allowed to put down the complete website? Well, it's the usual....) that is great for inexpensive but nice hotels. I personally LOVE the boutique HOTEL DU CHAMP DE MARS in the 7th district. The 25 rooms go for 75 or 85 Euros and are totally charming and SPOTLESS (and they have bathtubs !!) - always full so book early !!! It's less than half a block from RUE CLER which is a 6 day a week no cars, cobblestone busy and very colorful street market. The neighborhood is full of great restaurants, Bistros, bars, and cafes but is not super noisy at night or overly touristy (like the Latin Quarter for example). It feels like a village inside Paris. Travel writer Rick Steves is in love with this area and so is everybody that I've talked to that has stayed there. Safe, Clean, and Low Key - can't beat it.

Also check out Rick Steves books for other choices in the area. Also a website called ParisTripTips has hotel and Restaurant info. Oh and the Eiffel Tower is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel (depends how slow/fast you walk). Metro station is ECOLE MILITAIRE (Line 8). 4 main bus routes stop 2 blocks from the hotel. Post Office, Cleaners, Self Serve Laundry, Market, Late night Market, and Book/Magazine/Newspaper shop all less than 5 minutes away. Been staying in this area since 1995 (have stayed all over Paris - from the 5th to the 11th to the 1st) and would never stay anywhere else - just a wonderful neighborhood. Zoom
