Aha! So I was wrong! Thanks for that.

A VPN service would be better in that it will not need any other workarounds. The only issue with VPN (or using a proxy server for that matter) is if the TV companies get wise to it and block the VPN provider's IP addresses -- this has happened with some UK based ones and the BBC.

For both services, you need one that is stable with high bandwidth. Video uses an awful lot of it! Those who try to use free proxy servers soon find that they can't handle it.

I haven't tried the free proxy services (mine is a paid service) but I have been thrilled so far. I pay $8.99 (about 6 euros) on a monthly basis (rather than pre-paying for six months or a year) just in case there ever is a problem and it's blocked or not available.

Hi !
I live in Spain , and I have read all the threads on this subject. It seems to me that VPN is the way to go ?? (Lamnia? ) Does anyone have info that contradicts that statement ? Is it available in Spain ? Are there any negatives ? Does it work with Sky plus ?

no negatives mate. most services are about the same, though some are faster than others. i've pm'ed you with who i use. only works with sky if you are already a subscriber though - they just unlock free geo-ip blocked content.

I watch bbc i player, channel four Itv and channel five both live or by using their catchup service on the internet. There is a website called whatsonthebox dot net that charges a small monthly fee that allows you to access uk or american tv from anywhere in the world. The quality is almost dvd quality at full screen. I have been using it for months now and to be honest i would be lost without it
