Children covered under carte de sejour of parent?

Hi there

I stupidly was honest on my application for international health insurance by saying that yes my son had been to the doctor and it was for a chest infection. Now my policy has come back and he will not be covered for anything respiratory. My husband has a carte de sejour from a previous marriage to a French woman. Will my son be covered under my husband's social security number for health purposes or will he be just like me - an expat living in France on a long stay visa?

If you're going to be living in France, your husband should be able to put both you and your son on his carte vitale for health insurance purposes. However, that carte de sejour may no longer be valid if he hasn't been living in France for a while. He may need a visa as well - you may want to check with the French consulate.

If he's employed in France, he'll be enrolled in the French sécu system, and he'll be able to add you and your son to both his national insurance and any mutuelle available through his work.

Correction to this post, it's a Resident Card that he has not a carte de sejour.

Do you know if this makes a difference?

I think I already mentioned the carte residente over on the other thread. But given that your husband is working for the embassy, it depends what his situation is on health insurance. If he's enrolled in the French national system, he should just add you and your son to the coverage.

If there is a private insurance scheme for embassy employees, he'll need to ask them about adding you - but it would be weird for them not to include the family members in their plan.
