Schools in Rennes

Hi there was wondering if anyone knows about the Elementary Schools and Middle schools in Rennes. I have a 5,8,13 and may be moving there. I am trying to find schools there that either speak English, are use to dealing with English speaking children that are willing to learn French or International Schools there. If anyone can give me any information I would be so greatful.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

There is a book available from on of the US expat organizations (AAWE) that gives information on all the International schools in France. It's available on their website: AAWE - Guide to Education, Vital Issues, AAWE News, AAWE Directory

It will also give you information about the French school system in general.

There is also the Eurydice website: Eurydice - Information network on education in Europe - Réseau d'information sur l'éducation en Europe
This is a European Union backed group that collects information on the schools in all the various member countries. The section on the French schools will explain all about the different levels and what they study which year. (And in English!)

Hi,
I am moving to Rennes, France with my husband and three boys who will be 6, 9, and 12. My husband is Teaching English and doing college advising at School Year Abroad. My children will attend French school. My husband did the same when he was 9 and his dad taught at SYA for a year. I taught French for 7 years. So we both have a background in the french language and culture. We are very excited to expose our children to this experience. I am hoping they will have some americans to interact with.

Sounds like you're getting ready for an exciting year in France. Rumor has it that, at least for the younger kids, they will be doing away with school on Saturday starting with the 2008-9 school year.

Also looking for possible schools in Rennes 2009/10. What were people's choices - local or international. We have a bilingual so an international option to keep the English going would nice if there is one?

Is there a good English speaking community in the region.
