English teacher jobs in Paris

Hi ALL,
Me along with my wife have shifted to Paris around 3 months back. I work as a Business Analyst with a multinational company here.
My wife is a post graduate and is a qualified teacher. She has around 1.5 years of teaching experience with a school in India- mumbai.
We both are not proficient in French at the moment.
Is it possible for my wife to get a job as an english teacher here in Paris. Can you guide me as to where all to apply. Also my wife is open to working as a private english tutor here in Paris.
We would however prefer a full time teaching job in one of the schools in Paris.

First of all, your wife's ability to teach is dependent on what sort of visa/cds you have. If you came to France based on your job, and your visa/cds is limited to that employer, chances are your wife doesn't have the right to work in France. (Not that that ever stopped anyone... <g>)

If she has her own carte de séjour, check what is written on the back regarding the type of card and the restrictions. If only you have a carte de séjour, chances are she is considered a "trailing spouse" without the right to work.

In any event, it will be difficult to find a job teaching English without having some ability to speak French - if only to get through the administrative paperwork. The best language schools normally require TEFL or TESOL certification, though teaching experience certainly helps. (Check with the association called WICE, as they offer TEFL certification through an intensive course that might be of interest.)

Her best option would be to simply contact the various language schools and see what they tell her. Or pick up a copy of FUSAC (an English language want-ad magazine available for free at English bookstores and other expat hang outs in Paris) and see who is advertising for an English tutor.
