Looking for somewhere to live in Grenoble

Hi,

I'm currently living in Sheffield but I'm due to move to Grenoble in 6/7 weeks to continue and (hopefully) finish my PhD at the ESRF. This means I need to find somewhere to live before I actually move over. This, I've discovered, is a rather interesting challenge especially since my grasp of French is extremely limited.

Does anyone happen to have a furnished room for rent or know of anyone with a room to rent starting from about then? I'd like to be within cycling distance of the ESRF and have access to parking for a van but this isn't essential. I like to think I'm pretty easy to live with; I keep myself tidy and do my fair share of the cleaning.

I'm also a dedicated rock climber so I'll be looking for climbing partners for when I move out.

Any help or information people can give me will be much appreciated!

I recently moved to Grenoble for work and am in the same boat as you.....trying to find a furnished apartment to rent. There doesn't seem to be too much around, however I've gotten a few contact numbers. I'll call around to see what I can discover and I'll keep you informed.

Also, you said you're a rock climber! One of my co-workers is apparently a hardcore climber....once you arrive to Grenoble maybe I can introduce you guys.

That sounds good, I'm really looking forward to getting out there and enjoying those mountains and the decent weather. The perpetual drizzle here has made me realise I made the right decision!

Good luck in finding somewhere to live, I've got a few days in a guesthouse when I get out there so I'm hoping that will be enough time. Let me know if you get any leads.

Check out one of the local Grenoble newspapers called Topannounces.....it has loads of rentals. There's also a Topannonces website!!!
