Default Buying Dog Food in Paris

Hello, I'm new to the forum. We are bringing our golden retriever to Paris for six months, and I'm unable to find anything online about the type of dog food available to buy there. Right now he eats an all-natural dry food that contains no wheat, soy, or corn. It is called Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison and has no artificial color or flavor.

Is this available in Paris, or something similar? What would it be called and where would I buy it? Thanks.

In the last few years, there has been an appearance of the specialized animal foods in France. At first you could only buy them through a veterinarian, but now many garden centers also stock them.

At the moment I'm only aware of the standard "premium" brands - Iams, Royal Canin, Hills and Proplan. But some of the garden stores have gotten into bio products, and may have some other brands of animal food. Botanic is the garden store chain I'm most familiar with that has recently gone "all-bio".

Check the Pages Jaunes website under "animalerie" for Paris. There are a number of shops that say they offer a wide range of "alimentation classique et vétérinaire toutes
marques" which would probably be your best option. Other than that, you may have to consult with your vet in Paris to find a source for the appropriate type of food.

You might also google "alimentation pour chiens" - you'll turn up a bunch of interesting looking sources of dog food that you can have delivered, including Croquettes et Aliments pour chiens et chats livrés à domicile - Pet's Planet Haven't ever tried them, but they do turn up in many pet-related searches I've done. They claim their products are all natural.
Cheers,
Bev

Thank you for your reply. The Royal Canin food is available here in the states. I could change my dog over to that food (takes a couple of weeks) before arriving in Paris. Can you tell me where I would buy it in Paris? We will be living on bld Richard Lenoir in the 11th.

Royal Canin is sold by many vets here in France, and also at the garden centers - the big chains like Truffault, Delbard, Botanic. I suspect most "animalerie" in Paris will carry it, too. I'm pretty sure with some looking around on the Internet, you could probably find someplace to send it to you directly.
Cheers,
Bev

I also have my dog on a natural diet, but I live in an area where you can only get Royal Canine and things like Purina. In the US we used either Innova/Before Grain or Natural Balance. I now order my dog food online and they ship for free.
This company if very helpful and they have a full english speaking staff if you need:
Seulement Naturel : Bio Adulte Croquettes pour Chien

There are also these two companies:
Albert Le Chien, Produit naturel et bio pour chat et chien

and

PLATINUM FRANCE - Nourriture et soins naturels pour chiens et chiots

Default Dog food without corn etc

I feed my dogs Orijen which has no maize or other non-dog food ingredients. You can order it from their website which you can find by googling Orijen france. It's actually made in Canada. It's pretty expensive but I feed my dogs less than 'normal' dog food and they are healthy, look great and mop it up. Royal Canin and to be fair, most other kibbles, are heavy on maize (corn).

Thank you all so much for all the helpful info. I think I will be able to work around the corn/maize problem. Californiagirl, can I ask exactly what food you order? We also use either Natural Balance or Innova. I would like to get as close to that as possible.

I've been buying Fish4dogs, which has a high salmon protein content. It doesn't smell very good, but my dog loves it and they (Seulment Naturally) have free shipping. I've also tried Almo Natural which is also very good. Here's the link for them: Croquettes bio Almo Nature Holistic pour chien - Animalerie en ligne zooplus
Although I have not tried the Orijen, it's gotten good reviews so that could also be an option.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks again, everyone. Seulement Naturel even carries the Grizzly Salmon Oil we give our dog every day. I have emailed them to ask about distributors in Paris, but failing that, free shipping is a great option to have.

If anyone has any information about "doggy day care/socialization" places in Paris, or dog park locations, I'd be appreciative if you could let me know. Or even any loose group of English-speaking dog owners who get their dogs together somehow. Our golden retriever is young (2 years) and loves to play with other dogs. We will be living in the 11th and have lots of free time to travel around the city.

Hi CFrance,

There is a great doggy daycare that I take my dog to called City Canine in the 15th. It's run by an American, and the dogs have a blast there. Plus they have a huge 2-acre park next door where they walk the dogs several times a day. Every time we go there, my dog DRAGS me to the front door and goes off to play withour even saying goodbye ! Also they specialise in healthy dog food. They sell Arden Grange, Burns and Almo, which are SO much better than Royal Canine. I don't think they sell ORIJEN, but I've heard good things about that food (it just makes some dogs a bit gassy). They have a great website (it ends in .fr)
