Hi.
My names John and Ive just joined this forum so I would like to say Hi to you all, (and straight away ask for advice) I live in the uk but I own a mobile home in Le Pouldu Brittany, I would like to know please what the chances are of a carperter and joiner with city and guilds and over 25 years experence getting work here in Brittany so I could then move permanently to france, (or any other type of work for that matter) thank you all. Hi John, and welcome to the forum. I've moved your post into the general France area to see what sort of discussion we can get going.

As far as finding work in Brittany, I'd have to say that the first question is: how good is your French?

We've had lots of would-be expats through here asking about their chances at finding work more or less exclusively within the expat community, and frankly the prospects aren't very good.

To make a living in France, you need to have a decent command of the language. Even if you wanted to go out on your own as an artisan, you'd need a reasonable level of French simply to handle the registrations, paperwork and reporting requirements for running your own business.

OTOH, next time you're over, why not make a few inquiries to see what your job prospects might be in the area? Regardless of what general prospects are, it only takes one employer with a job he's willing to give you for you to make your big move.
