Smile Moving to Pau this summer

Hi,

After many years of talking about moving to France we have taken the plunge and head over this summer Relocating three children, husband and dog!! We are in the process of purchasing land in Jurancon and will be requiring rented accommodation for probably 1 year. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

This is my very first posting so many thanks

JudithHardy

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As I suggested to another poster looking for rental information, start by googling the website for a publication called Particulier a particulier - to find rentals where you can go directly through the landlord without the agency fee. (The link to the site is somewhere in the archives here on the forum - I'm working remotely at the moment and can't really look it up conveniently.)

Finding a rental will be much much easier if your French is adequate for the job of meeting with landlords and/or agents. Trying to do this in English is tricky, as it's kind of open season on Brits looking to buy or rent in the south of France.
Cheers,
Bev

Thank you for this information I will go and search for the link. My husbands french is ok and my brother in laws is fluent so I tend to pass things by them both for vetting.

Hi,

I lived in Pau for 2.5 years and really loved it. Do you already know where you want to rent? Close to a school? In Pau or Jurançon?
It can be quite tricky to rent a house as they always want some prouve that you can afford it e.g. contract from employer or garantee from someone in France. Your kids will go to school in the neighbourhood of you house normally.
Does the land have building permission?

We just bought a house in Provence so if you need any help, just ask......I work with 100% french people and have friends in Pau so enough connections
