Don't mean to burst your bubble, but you'll hear French folks who'll give you the same rap about France - rising crime, too many foreigners, change in values, etc. etc.

Still, you'll be out in the country which probably will make a difference in your style of life. Just remember - in France you are considered one of the foreigners who is helping lead the country to rack and ruin.

Hi, well we have a place in france (normandy) not to far from you, and also a place in the exmouth. We have owned the property in france for 6 years and have seen a lot of things about france and its people.
You will know that the cost of transport is lower, a lot lower then the UK, housing costs are going up, but at the time of writing remain lower the the UK. food costs a bit more, I don,t use supermarkets at all, we buy from the farmers when in france and from a farmers market when in the uk.
I like the ease of france in many ways, but the French do think that the brits are made of money, many brits only remain in France for upto 10 years before returning to the UK or leaving for other country. There is nothing to do in France after 7.30 at night, things like the internet only work at a snails pace at best and all stops if its raining or someone drives to fast pass your house, We have had a number of breakins at the house so much so that I have fitted CCTV,s all over and had a high wall build up around the property.
I know what you are saying about the UK, its the same here in devon with poles all over the place.
At this time we are rething what to do, i can,t see myselve growing old in france, and am starting to hate what the UK as become. But being 51 most doors are closed to us, I would love to move to canada but am to old to get in. It makes me sad to think that the countries who have the same queen as us and fly the union flag within their own will not allow me in. yet 3rd world rubbish can go where they please at the drop of a hat.
I wish you well in france, but take care its not all green. terry
