Default Live in Paris, work in Velizy - need help!

Hello All,

I have a job offer to relocate from the US to Velizy (about 15 miles from center of Paris near Versailles). I have been there a couple times, and I know the metro does not go all the way there - I think I have to catch a bus the rest of the way.

I would like to live in Paris, but I'm not sure the commute will work. Any input/advice?

There is definitely a bus out to Velizy from Paris, because it services the large shopping center there (which is very popular with Parisians).

It pretty much depends on where in Paris you'd want to live. The fewer transfers you'd have to make, the quicker the commute. Surely some of your coworkers-to-be must live in Paris. Ask where they live and how they make the commute.

Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, but you can see a map of the bus routes in Velizy (some of which go to major transit points - like the Gare de Massy or Antony) at this website: Plan du réseau Veolia Transport VELIZY

It's all in French, but click on "Votre trajet" on the left, and then on "Plan de réseau" - where there is a link to a pdf map of all the bus routes in Velizy.
Cheers,
Bev

I'm sure Durand has a response by now, but I wanted to add - as someone who lived in Chaville, which is 5 km from Velizy - that 1) you would need a car and 2) commuting anywhere in Paris by car is a huge pain. Buses are good if the route is pretty direct. Train is by far the best option. It is much better to just live in and around that area and commute to Paris when you want.
