Default Help me find a job please!!!!

Hi I currently live in Grimaud in the south, I have lived here for two years and speak some very very basic french. I had my little boy here and now he is starting creche three days a week and I am desperate to start looking for a job before I become insane and adopt the mind of an 18 month old!!

I am looking for help on where to find jobs and how to start searching, i have looked on the net and its not really very helpful, my french is quite poor but I am happy to give anything a try!

If anyone could give me some words of wisdom I would be extremely grateful!

Many thanks in advance

Kelly

Hi Kelly, and welcome to the forum.

It's going to be a real "challenge" to find a job in France if your French is as basic as you say it is. But most jobs in France are found through word of mouth rather than through the Internet. Put together a French resume - in French, obviously. If you google, you should be able to find a format. Keep it short and make sure you mention any qualifications you have - school leaving certificates, diplomas, any training classes you took before moving to France. (The French are nuts about "qualifications".)

Then, you're probably going to have to trek around in your area and simply ask about jobs. Any local merchants you're friendly with? Chat up the bakery lady or even the vendors in your local marché if there are some you're particularly chummy with. If there's an English presence in your area, you might get a nibble, even if it's only a part time job or just filling in for someone during the summer or something. Leave a copy of your French resume and see what develops.

Job hunting takes a long time in France. Try not to get discouraged, but keep at it. If nothing else, getting out and around like that will help you improve your French and that will make life a little easier all around.
Cheers,
Bev

Kelly,

Have you tried applying for US gov't jobs? Or perhaps looking within the US Emassy? Y
