I currently stay in Aix-en-Provence, near the town center. Can I go directly to the general hospital or there is polyclinic which is cheaper here?

In Singapore for example, there is polyclinics, general hospitals, private hospitals and private clinics. Citizens can get subsidised rate in polyclinics. If the sickness is more complicated or require equipment that only has in hospital, doctor in polyclinic will refer you to general hospital. With the referral letter from polyclinic, citizens only then can get subsidised rate in general hospital. So for citizens, the cheapest channel is go through polyclinic. And the doctor fee per visit is very much cheaper in polyclinic than general hospital.

For foreigner in Singapore, you can’t get subsidised rate in both polyclinic and general hospital. There is no point to go through polyclinic, better go directly to general hospital. Since charges without subsidise is much higher, the price become about the same as private hospital.

In Singapore, there is a clear list of charges at the registration counter and internet website of polyclinics and general hospitals. So, you can roughly know the charges and compare price before visit. How about in France?
I will ring the CPAM tomorrow and I will ask them about charges and how it will affect you. I will explain to them that you are a visitor, and you will be staying for three months. How many weeks are you into your pregnancy, it may help if I can tell them.

If you are a UK expat then if as you say you completed the E106, the French social security would have issued you with a social security number, and you would not lose your entitlements under the health system here.

In January, if you do not work here or are not retired, then you will not get health care cover free. I live here in France, I work and so I am entitled to health care, I also pay a mutual to cover the 30% I have to pay. My own personal experience of health care here is very good. The system works very well, I have no complaintes.
How about married spouse, if we move next year, my husband will working - I won't be seeking work initially because apart from having a young family to settle, I also need to get up to speed on the language front (did ALevel french about 12 years ago!).

From Jan will I not then be covered by the E106 (I'm currently working in the UK)? If not will I as married dependent get cover?

If your husband is working here in France and is paying into the French social security system, then he will receive the same benefits as a French national. He will get 70% refund on most medical bills, you will then need to have a health insurance that covers the family for the other 30%. It is not expensive, the way I look at it, we do not pay the same council tax, water rates etc, and so over the year we are still better off financially, even though we are paying a health insurance. The health service here is far better than in the UK.

You must make sure that you apply for a French social security number straight away, they will give you a temp. number untill they do all the paperwork for the official number, you will have a carte vital, (French Social SecurityCard ) which you use for all medical visits, this card contains all the information about who is covered through your card, (Wife children). The whole family will be on this card, because from January, if you are an expat not of retirement age, you will not get free health care here in France, only as an employee will you qualify.

I hope this helps you, a visit to the dentist is also the same as in the UK, you pay for treatment and get an ammount refunded. There are no shortages of dentists, and generally they all seem to be very good, the ones I have used so far are great.

Hello again, I have spoken to the CPAM service international at Marseille, telephone 04 91 11 50 70

They have told me that you will pay the set charges withour re imbursement if you visit a doctor, specialist, or hospital here in France. For example if you go to a doctor just for a check up to ensure that all is well, you will pay
23 euros, this is the standard charge. The same applies to the hospital, but if you go to a specialist their charges start at around 35 euros, and if you have a scan then that will have to be paid for, you could pay around 95 euros with a scan.

If you have any worries about the pregnancy, you could find a doctor in or around Aix en Provence, some do speak English, they will give you a check up, and it will cost you 23 euros. I hope that this helps you, good luck I hope all goes well for you and your baby.

Is that the same for healthcare in general then as we discussed earlier, or just this example?

CPAM have told me that you will pay the charges listed for health care, you can get a list of charges from the CPAM, there will be a number of CPAM offices in Aix. It all depends on what treatment you need and who treats you, your best option is to stick to local Doctors rather than private clinics.

CAMSP Le Centre d’Action Médico-Sociale Précoce this is a medical organisation for children with certain problems.

CMLS I believe is linked to medical teaching

I’m accompanying my husband for 3 months training here and discover that I’m pregnant. I only can go back to my country end of Dec2007. If I want to visit doctor, I’m thinking should I go to general hospital, private hospital or clinic? I’m wondering how big the different in charges (for the same treatment) among these choices.

I also can’t find the address of hospitals or clinics around here in the internet.
I have problem in French too.
Hi!

Question: Will your husband in France get a French pay?

If that would be the case, your husband would be insured in France, and you would be insured as " ayant droit ".

See here:

Délivrance de plein droit de la carte de séjour "vie privée et familiale" - Service-public.fr

concerning the fact that you are not a EC nationality, valid if your husband is of EC nationality ( you then can also be tagged on, but there is a lot of red tape ).

Yours,

pomhorn
