Default carpentry work france

Hi all

This is my first post on the site so apologies for any ignorance or stupid questions!!

I and my family are looking seriously at moving to france as we have fallen in love with it over the last few visits on holidays. I am employed as MD of a specialist carpentry and joinery subcontractor in Ireland and I am looking for advice on where construction work is in demand and what limitations are on setting up a specialist contracting firm in france?

I was told Dordogne has a lot of work and that tradesmen are highly desirable, but we would prefer to be closer to the coast as we live on the east coast of ireland. If so where, how and who can I speak to to move forward on the move??

Kind regards

R

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The first question has got to be: how good is your French? You can set up a contracting firm anywhere you like in France, but getting through the rules, regulations and requirements is going to require a reasonable level of French. For some preliminary information, you may want to try and locate the Chambre des métiers in whatever departement you think you would be interested in. A good starting point (in French, of course) is here: Portail artisanat, création entreprise artisanale, actualité artisanat
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks for that, my french isnt good but im signed up for a course starting next week! What about small "handyman" requirements and not so large scale is there a demand for all rounders in home improvements?

regards
