Question codt of living

Hi New to all this. Thinking of re-locating To France but a bit worried on cost of living. Had a holiday last year to place with Euro and found it very expensive for everyday items like bread, milk, teabags etc. i.e. litre of milk 1.10 euros 40 teabags 2.50 can anyone tell me what things like this cost in France as we are both disabled and on a limited income.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

How expensive France (or anywhere) is will depend on a number of things. The big one (especially right now) is where you're coming from and what your source of income will be. If, like many of the members of the forum, you're from the UK, the current rate of exchange is a killer. At roughly GBP 1 = 1 € everything is going to be expensive. And, you're at the mercy of the exchange rates as they rise and fall.

It can also depend on what part of France you're thinking about.
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks for your quick reply you are right we are coming from uk and are thinking of the Rousillon or Limousin areas. My husband is thinking of Spain but I would prefer France. We both have incapacity and disability benefits so like I said money limited.

Hi!

May be hard to swallow - but best you know what you may be confronted with.

If you wish to settle in France you have 1st to clear:

- your situation towards the French health system - should you not qualify then since you could probably not pay the require private insurance ( over Euro 3600 for a normal healthy person per year - for a handicapped risks being prohibitive.

- further you have to be aware if you do not have sufficient means, they can turn you down ( even as an EC ) since they will not accept people who would be dependant on the French social system.

See here for " inactifs " ( people not working.)

So basically much will depend if you own premises in France of not.

Yours,

giantpanda
