Default Life Insurance

I have been trying to organise life insurance as a French resident. Most British companies are not interested in anyone who lives outside the UK. Has anyone out there any suggestions as to obtaining cover at acceptable premium levels

Welcome to the forum Firefly. I'm sure someone will be able to advise. In the meantime, stop over in Introductions and say hello.

Hi!

What are you considering?

- a risk insurance in case of death etc;

- or a Capital Life Insurance, which in Fance can be considered as a grand savings account with certain tax and succession priveleges?

Yours,

giantpanda

Hi!

They will call that: Assurance frais d'obsèque

What Service public says:

Moteur de recherche service-public.fr : résultats de la recherche

NB. But basically it is what the French call ""Assurance Vie " which is a Capital Life Insurance which is tax free.

Now you have 2 types of "Assurance frais d'obsèque" - the more simple ones which give you heirs ( some in 4 days - if you have' a death certifcate - ) a lump sum.

There are more refined ones, where you can determine exactly in detail how you burial ceremony should be into the last details - there of course are basically relatively more costly, because the risk element for the insurance is higher, and they have to take the price developpment into consideration.

If you what to see what is on the market before you go to a local insurance, you can put:

Assurance frais d'obsèque comparateur

into you internet search machine, and see what is on offer.

If it is for higher sums please advise, because there the matter is more complex, although not complicated to insurance that you can transmit up to Euro 152.500 and even more to any person you wish ( also 3rd parties ) tax free.

Yours,

pomhorn

Hello

Thank you very much for that information. After a little web research I think I will go and talk to my local insurance agent. Once again thanks for your assistance.

There is a company on the island called Avalon Trustee Company, very different to insurance I would reccomend you visit their site, type in there company name on Google . They fix the cost of funerals with nothing more to pay irrespective of how long you live. They also cover you in any European country Funeral plans

I think that it is still possible to get life insurance even if you are living in France. Some life insurance companies specialize for expats. Are you planning on moving back to the UK eventually? Here are some sites that you can look at to figure out the stipulations.
Life Insurance, Life Assurance, Life Cover - moneto.eu
Expat Life Insurance | UK Expat International Life Cover
I believe that this here is one of the companies that offers global life insurance, but you should check other sites because I don't know if they neccessarily have to best rates.
International Health, Life and Income Insurance for expatriates - William Russell
Hope this answers your question!
Cheers
