Default Moving Back to Canada July 2009

Hello...

We are a Canadian family spending one year in France...we will be returning to our home in Vancouver, Canada next July...

We rented a house in Amboise and furnished it. We are hoping to take home some of our really unique finds but we will have to sell some of the appliances (ex: flat screen TV, DVD player, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher)

Does anyone have any ideas the best way to sell these items? At home, we would use Craigslist but Craigslist doesn't really seem to be an option here in France..or maybe its just our region...?)

Further to this, we are looking for options for how to take home some of those previously mentioned unique finds...we we're hoping to rent a shiping container, pack it ourselves and then have it shipped to our home in Canada...does anyone have any experience wiht this?

thanks so much for any suggestions!

Cheers, Teresa & Colin Wells

Within the expat community, there is usually a reasonable market for used appliances and furniture with the summer influx of new expats each year. If you are in contact with any expat groups in your area, you might ask them about advertising in May or June in their bulletin.

The trick is that many associations (and most of France, for that matter) pretty much shut down during the months of July and August. The towns that have brocantes (boot sales) usually run them in September and October, which doesn't do you any good.

Otherwise, check the pages jaunes (in print or online) for "Dépôts-vente: meubles, équipements pour la maison" and/or "Matériel d'occasion pour particuliers (achats, revente)." The other option is eBay.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi!

No direct help for your questions, but ( just in case )

Do not forget

1. To do your income tax return for 2008 ( to be sent in latest 30.5.2008 ) You will probably have to fetch the forms 2042/2047/3916 yourself.

2. Do not forget to do an income tax return for earnings 209?

3. See the town sute - déménagements.

And register the change of address for the Taxe d'Habitation bill, other it will land at the old French address?

Yours,

giantpanda
