Default Tax exemption status in france?

Good morning all,

I work overseas and offshore and so I am wondering if France has the same tax exemption rules as other countries. for example, how many days does one have to be out of the country each year to not have to pay income tax? Does anyone have any facts on the matter please? Merci!

Hi,
I think it depends on the country where the company that pays you is based ,and the tax treaty , if any, between that country and France. If your family home is in France , time away may not come into it . A little more detail is needed ; or you could ask your employer's finance department.

thanks Parsnips! yes, agreed, I need to source a france tax expert. None on this ship! Maybe we could rent a holiday rental for longer time but whether we will be allowed to school the kids there or not I don't know. When I'm home (Australia) in a weeks time I'll contact the french school of Sydney and see if any parents can put me in touch with someone that knows.

There's just so many options too consider, oh the agony of choice!

France is a participant in some big international treaty on maritime workers if you're in the equivalent of the Merchant Marines. I found the information a long time ago online, but can't recall offhand just where. It depends on the specific treaties involved and the registration of the vessels you are working on. You might check the UN site, as I think the international side of the treaty is administered through the UN.
Cheers,
Bev
