You'd probably have a better response if you posted in the country's forum, and you let people know where you are.

I've moved your post over to the France section to see what we can attract for responses.

There used to be a hair salon in the 8th, just off the rue Montaigne, that had English and German speaking hairdressers and that advertised this in the FUSAC. You should definitely check the ads in the FUSAC to see if they (or another salon) is listed: FUSAC - Petites annonces pour anglophones de Paris
Cheers,
Bev

Well now let me see. Why would i need an English speaking stylist even though I'm in France.

Hmmm. Oh yeh, it is because although I'm in France my French isn't very good yet, although I am studying, and it would be nice to be able to communicate with the person who is cutting my hair. Yes, that's it, that's why.

Now I find your little note declaring "this is nonsense" to be a bit on the nasty side, and also leaning toward stupid, because it seems the answer as to why I was looking for an English speaking stylist to would be self evident to a 5 year old.

It's not like it's invasive medical surgery or anything where you really might have to understand what's happening. Oh for goodness' sake; take a picture with you! It's only your hair! Even you can't see it unless you're vain enough to check in every mirror you pass.

And anyway, making small talk with a French hairdresser may equip you to cope better with other people too.

H

Ah hils, don't you remember back to when you were new in France and everything - even going to the hairdresser - seemed an insurmountable challenge? Besides, they don't teach you many "hair terms" when you're taking French. It took me ages to figure out how to tell the hairdresser I wanted my hair "layered." (Even when you find the term in the dictionary, it's tough to accept that you want your hair "dégradé" which sounds weird.)

I hauled my butt all the way into Paris once or twice just to have an English speaking hairdresser. But when I found out how much that was going to cost me, I decided that maybe I'd keep looking up the haircutting terms in my Larousse and hope I got them right.

Finally, I just decided to let my hair grow out and just avoid the issue altogether.
Cheers,
Bev

I shave my own head & my daughter tidies up the loose ends. Since I was 25-ish, how my head looks has not been any of my preoccupations. Practicality outweighs vanity - if other people want to judge me on my hair; they're not really people I want to care anything about.

For heavens' sake: it's only HAIR and it will grow again anyway.

Hils
